Abstract

Currently, digital transformation and sustainability are two fundamental elements for the success of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). This study analyzed the relationship between technology, digitalization, and sustainability in MSMEs in Baja California, Mexico. Two hypotheses were proposed to evaluate the impact of technology and digitalization on the sustainability of MSMEs. An empirical study was carried out with 735 MSMEs from Baja California, Mexico, using a questionnaire to collect data. Likewise, a confirmatory factor analysis and a structural equation model were carried out to validate the research model. It was identified that there is a positive relationship between digitalization and sustainability. However, a negative relationship between technology and sustainability was manifested. In conclusion, technology and digitalization are important tools that can help MSMEs achieve sustainability.
