Impact of teacher training on Chemical Engineering students at the La Laguna Technological Institute, Mexico, during the COVID-19 quarantine

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, higher education adapted and changed teaching methods to ensure that students acquired learning. The research was carried out at the National Technology of Mexico, Technological Institute of La Laguna, Mexico. The failure rates in the subjects of the Chemical Engineering degree were analyzed. The data obtained indicated that the number of failed students in 2020 and 2021 are related to teacher training. The analysis of these indicators during the 2020 and 2021 school years identified that the percentage of failed students increased during the pandemic and increased again when students returned to in-person classes. It is important to establish actions to improve the teaching-learning process in educational institutions and thus improve the future of society.
