The impact of group integration on group cohesion

The lack of integration prevents unity and a sense of community from being forged. This breaks group cohesion and the overall performance of the groups. It was identified whether group integration impacts the group cohesion of the students at the Higher University Technician (HUT). For this, a quasi-experimental design was used, with pretest, posttest, and control group. 37 randomly chosen students participated in the study. An intervention group was created with 18 students and a control group with 19 students. The intervention consisted of carrying out recreational group integration activities during a quarter. A significant increase was observed in the mean of all the factors evaluated. The mean of the Individual Attraction to the Social-Group (ATG-S) increased from 5.42 to 6.60; Individual Attraction to Task-Group (ATG-T) increased from 6.69 to 7.46; Group-Task Integration (GI-T) increased from 6.12 to 6.46; and Group Integration-Social (GI-S) increased from 5.96 to 7.58. These results showed substantial progress in group cohesion of the intervention group; unlike the control group, which did not show significant improvements. The findings of the study demonstrated that group integration is an effective tool to promote group cohesion of HUT students.
